Virginia Chandler

Artist Statement

I was born in the District of Columbia and raised in Bethesda, MD. I married young, worked to

help pay the bills while always carving out time to learn from art instructors more skillful than myself.

My inspiration comes from the beauty of everyday things. I see beauty In every season, in every sunrise and sunset, and every face.

I look at my subjects with a critical eye. I see how light and shadow falls on a face, how the color changes in the folds of ones clothing, how the landscape changes with the light.

I’m inspired by music, animal life, the sweet faces of my grandchildren, and in particular, by the beautiful countryside of my surroundings.

Striving to master my craft has been a life long, never ending journey. I keep an ongoing list in my mind of those things I want to paint. I add to this list constantly. It is overwhelming.

I work in mediums (not limited to) oil, watercolor, pen and ink, pastels, and glass mosaics.

I am so very thankful to God for giving me this gift. It has laid out a path for my entire life.

Someone once wrote, if I were a poet, I would write a poem, If I were a ballerina, I would dance a ballet. I am an artist. I paint.
