Marylou Bono
I am a primarily self-taught mixed media abstract artist creating for the past ten years. I work in fused glass, painting, printing, collage and photography.
Art is cathartic and permits introspection and the refocus of energy allowing me to creatively express myself after years of working at mundane endeavors. My favorite work is designing fused glass pendants which incorporate metal and vintage jewelry pieces.
Art has also given me the opportunity to participate in local exhibitions through the Art League of Germantown at BlackRock Center, the City of Gaithersburg galleries, the Delaplaine Arts Center and other venues. A highlight was the acceptance of my glass sculpture Linear Mauve as part of the Delaplaine’s National Juried Show several years ago. My fused glass pendants are available at the Arts Barn in the Kentlands, the Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick and the Sandy Spring Museum.
I am also a freelance writer for the local art scene. My column Eye on Art was featured in the Town Courier newspaper from 2017-2020 and I have been writing for the City of Gaithersburg since 2022. I am on the Board of Directors for the Art League of Germantown and volunteer as the Social Media Chair and Newsletter Editor. My articles have been published in Culture Spot, Moco Arts & Humanities and Kentlands Living.
Recently retired, I have been concentrating on two photography series–one developed onto aluminium and one of my photographs of Athens, Greece where I lived for ten years. I continue to design glass and other jewelry.
