Derrick Tabor
Artist Statement
Â
I am a photographer, photojournalist, calligrapher, and mixed media artist. I have loved creating art since my first art class in elementary school. After retiring from a career in the sciences, I furthered my interest in photography by completing the Photography Master Certificate program at Montgomery College. Since 2017, I have exhibited my work at several local venues. My interests include landscape, macro, architectural, and portrait and event photography. My mixed media and collage art result from conceptualizing photographic prints as fabrics and texts. My art and photography inspired designs are informed by patterns created by quilters, the wings and other components of pollinators, birds, flowers, landscapes, masks, and the creative application of digital filters. I am inspired by the artists Alma Thomas and M.C. Escher.Â
